Auto XLR8 end-to-end testing solution

Most buy-side testing programs cover individual systems. Auto XLR8 covers the whole ecosystem, from data integrity and implementation through to live production monitoring.

It is purpose-built for the workflows, platforms and data complexity of the investment management environment.

In any complex buy-side environment, each team tests what it owns. But when everything is deployed and real workflows run, nobody looks along the whole chain.

A single instruction such as ‘buy shares in a fund’ flows through order management, compliance, execution, allocation, settlement and reporting. Each step involves different teams, different permissions, different data. To test that complete workflow manually would mean coordinating all those different teams to work together through scenarios that could take weeks to complete.

This approach doesn’t scale, and when programmes come under pressure, end-to-end testing is always the first thing that gets cut.

Auto XLR8 was built to solve this problem. And with AI built in, it doesn’t just flag what’s wrong – it tells you why.

Testing your whole universe

Auto XLR8 automates the full testing and validation cycle across the entire ecosystem. The building blocks are pre-built, domain-specific actions that are already aligned with how the major platforms behave, such as Charles River, Aladdin and Bloomberg.

No need to start testing from scratch: the workflows are already there.

For non-technical users, the interface works through familiar interface of Excel. Add a row, add a scenario, run it. No scripts, no developers required. For engineering teams that want more depth, the platform supports Python and C# and integrates with CI/CD pipelines.

Either way, the output is the same: a clear picture of what passed, what failed, what the system can handle and when performance changed.

Auto XLR8 runs on a schedule, triggers automatically when code is updated or fires on demand. It works across development, UAT and production environments, which is where most other testing platforms stop.

360 Degree testing framework

Velocity’s full suite of testing solutions allow for a comprehensive approach to QA. We manage all aspects of testing from data analysis, validation and reconciliation through to thorough performance testing that spans batch data, workflows and the end user experience. Our 360-degree framework ensures we test the full cycle of events end-to-end, across your entire ecosystem.

Data quality: the DQ component

DQ validates and compares data across sources that don’t naturally talk to each other – databases, APIs, flat files, Excel, ETL outputs. In investment management, data arrives in different formats from multiple vendors and systems, and checking whether it’s accurate, consistent and correctly formatted at scale can’t be done in Excel once records reach the millions.

DQ maps different sources into a common model and surfaces mismatches at the record level. It can reason about why data is wrong, identifying likely causes such as a corporate action, a stock split or a vendor file change, rather than just flag that something doesn’t match.

AI inside the platform

AI is built into both Auto XLR8 and DQ. Users can describe a workflow in plain language and the platform builds it, drawing on existing actions and knowledge of how the underlying investment management systems work. That removes the hardest 80% of workflow construction and frees up users to focus on optimization.

The platform also accumulates data across every client engagement: what was tested, how systems performed, what failed and why. That dataset underpins the diagnostic intelligence inside the platform and feeds the knowledge graph that makes Velocity’s accumulated delivery experience available across the whole team.

The business case

AutoXLR8 reduces a testing function that once required 30-40 people down to one or two, running greater coverage more frequently. By year five, total testing cost runs at roughly 18% of a traditional manual programme. Issues caught earlier cost less to fix, go-lives are better prepared and firms have the data to prove system readiness rather than assume it.

Portfolio managers, traders and compliance teams stop spending weeks in UAT sessions. Assurance is built into the process, with senior stakeholders getting a morning report before trading begins confirming what passed, what failed and whether the environment is ready.
